Wendy is the preferred provider to the High Performance Sport NZ, she provides treatment and full muscle balance assessments to elite carded athletes. Wendy has been physio to Northland Hockey and continues to provide treatment and advice to Northlands up and coming athletes.
The increasing focus for elite athletes and particularly for junior developing athletes is on pre-screening via muscle balance assessment and movement competency screening after which an individualised programme is prescribed to improve performance or reduce injury risk. Wendy Langlands is also our trained Clinical Pilates Provider. Wendy takes private Pilates sessions as well as small group clinical Pilates groups at Kensington Gym. These sessions can be the perfect way to continue to maintain your body in addition to or on completion of your physiotherapy programme.
Wendy also provides rehabilitation programmes integrating a Clinical Pilates and rehabilitation approach at Kensington gym. Being a post graduate trained therapist Wendy treats all spinal and general musculoskeletal problems.
Julie Taylor - Senior Manipulative Therapist, REG. Hand Therapist, MNZSP, BHSc Physio, PGDip Musculo and MHPrac with distinction.
Throughout Julie's career she has placed a strong emphasis on continuing education to further her knowledge in Musculoskeletal physiotherapy. Most recently she gained a Masters of Health Practice to add to her other qualifications. She has also written and had published an article in a recent in a physiotherapy journal.
Throughout Julie's postgraduate & Masters study she has achieved straight A's in addition to the NZMPA award for excellence in clinical reasoning & practical skills.
Julie is also a keen hockey & tennis player herself, who recognises the importance of managing acute sporting injuries in a timely & efficient manner, in order to ensure a safe return to sport as soon as possible. Hal grew up and went to school in Whangarei and is excited to join the experienced team at Whangarei Physiotherapy Services.
Hal completed his Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the University of Otago and has since worked in busy Sports Medicine clinics in Christchurch, in England and in Melbourne.
Hal has a passion for Sports Physiotherapy and enjoys working with active people of all levels.
Whilst living in Melbourne Hal completed his Master’s Degree in Sports Physiotherapy and was fortunate to spend time working with the Gold Coast Suns AFL team as well as Tennis Australia, treating some of Australia’s best Tennis and AFL players.
Hal has also worked with elite Rugby Union and Basketball teams and with many elite athletes as a Sports Physiotherapist in New Zealand, England and Australia. In recognition of his expertise in Sports Physiotherapy in Australia Hal was awarded the title ‘APA Sports Physiotherapist’ in 2014.
Hal has always enjoyed treating neck and back injuries and in 2009 Hal passed the McKenzie Institute credentialing examination. He believes the McKenzie method is empowering to patients as it provides exercises to reduce pain as well as maintain healthy spinal function.
In his spare time Hal enjoys Weight Training, Tennis and Diving and enjoying the great outdoor lifestyle that Northland has to offer.

Gemma has worked at both our clinics. She is now on maternity leave. Gemma has exciting times ahead in 2016 with the anticipated arrival of her first child.
Jane Sweeney (Senior Hand Therapist)

Jane is our Senior Hand Therapist and also works as Senior Therapist at Whangarei Base Hospital. Jane provides comprehensive assessments and treatment of all hand therapy conditions and custom makes any splinting required. Currently ACC Hand therapy is fully funded under a separate hand therapy contract.

Adrienne joined out team in 2013 when she her and her husband and two sons moved to Whangarei. Adrienne is an Occupational Therapist and a Registered Hand Therapist. She started as a Hand Therapist in 1996, and worked for 11 years in the Hand Clinic attached to Burns and Plastic Unit, Hutt Hospital. Her (hand related) interests are pain patients, nerve injuries and burns. Adrienne brings a different frame of reference to the practice due to her Occupational Therapy background.
Rehabilitation coordinator, Tina Benfell, has finished her Post-grad in Rehabilitation through the University of Otago making her the only Physiotherapist in Northland who has this qualification to date. In conjunction with her Physical Education Degree, Post-grad in Manipulative and Manual Therapy and 20 years experience in providing rehabilitation services for ACC, this makes Tina one of Northland’s most highly qualified and experienced rehabilitation specialists.
Working together with Rachel Bean they provide comprehensive rehabilitation programmes at the gym. Rachel has a Masters in Manipulative and Manual Therapy and has had 7 years experience providing rehabilitation programmes for soccer, rugby and rugby league athletes. Rachel has been part of Physiotherapy team for the New Zealand Women's rugby league team over the past 2 years.
Tina and Rachel are both passionate about, and gain great personal satisfaction from providing rehabilitation services at the fully equipped and serviced Kensington Fitness Centre.
Jane is a long standing member of our team. Jane has had a busy year juggling her two young daughters and lifestyle block. We have enjoyed her return to the clinic with her post graduate manual therapy experience and acupuncture skills. Jane works part time and appointments with her need to be booked in advance.
As a member of the Physiotherapy Acupuncture Association of New Zealand Jane has continued her training in acupuncture and Jane's patients have dual access to both physio treatments and acupuncture.

Whangarei Physio has been happy to gain the addition of English trained
physio Andrew Rafferty to our team.
It is especially as Andrew has sought after skills in both Physio and
Andrew moved with his wife to New Zealand in January 2015 and worked locally
in Whangarei for 7 months prior to joining Whangarei Physio.
In this time he was extensively involved with the Northland U19'S rugby
team and local club rugby teams.
Andrew graduated in the UK from Teesside University in 2011 having
previously completed a degree in Sport and Exercise Science in 2008 from
York St John University. In this time he worked for the NHS for 3 and a half
years and as such gained extensive knowledge and rehabilitative skills in
many areas of physiotherapy including, pre and post-op management and rehab
of spinal conditions and knee, shoulder and lower limb injuries.
Andrew is passionate about early and effective management of all
musculoskeletal injuries and hopes to continue his studies in the near
future to further progress his knowledge base and practical skillset. His
goal is to work with high level triathletes and cyclists in Whangarei.
In Andrew's spare time he is a keen Triathlete, cyclist and footballer. He
enjoys climbing, hiking and generally anything that gets him outdoors.
It is awesome to welcome Rachel to our team of highly skilled physios. Rachel has postgraduate qualifications in Manipulative therapy as well as Acupuncture qualifications.
Rachel can offer you exceptional diagnostic skills as well as highly effective manual therapy treatment, If you choose you may also benefit from acupuncture as an adjunct to your treatment.
Rachel was a keen rugby league player for a number of years however now spends her time on the sideline and as a supporter. She has a keen interest in sports physio and is in constant demand
from teams and athletes for her services. Rachel is already in high demand for her Physio skill. She is currently based at our Kamo clinic ph 4352299.
